Wake Up Call
The members of the band represent this “gumbo” of varied influences:
Tom Lowry (Keys, harp, trombone, lead vocals) is a former member of Lancaster’s popular classic rock band The Flyboys, and has played with many area blues bands as well. His dynamic vocals pair with his New Orleans-influenced piano style to make a unique blend of old and new. Ken Smith (bass, vocals) was the leader of the classic blues band The Regulators, and a veteran of the Annapolis music scene of the 70’s. His deep bass tones add the “funk” to the sound of Wake Up Call.
Mike Hess (guitar, lead vocals) has played with innumerable bands in the Harrisburg/York area, including the Don Johnson Project. His soulful vocals combine with slick guitar sounds reminiscent of greats such as Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, and Albert Lee.
Randy Bucksner (saxophone, vocals) is a Philadelphia native who has been playing in Central Pa. for the past 20 years.Besides putting in time with Wake Up Call he plays with a diverse mix of bands such as The Rip Chords,Mark DeRose,The Shackletons, and fronts his own band Main Street Mystics. He is a fan of all styles of music.
J.J. Dugan (drums, lead vocals) brings a powerful brand of soul and blues singing to the band. He has contributed to many regional bands, including Brian Colgan’s pop-rock band Six Cents, State College’s horn band Cliff Turner & the Afterburners, and Bobby Shell’s Fatback.
The band features tunes from such artists as Eric Clapton, Lucky Peterson, Delbert McClinton, Ray Charles, Joe Bonamassa, Willie Dixon, The Doors, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tedeschi-Trucks Band, along with originals by the band. The band regularly appears in venues around Harrisburg, York, and Hanover Pa.
A gifted musician, Stuart has shared the stage with legendary musicians such as The Roots, the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, as well as The Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Roy Hargrove, and Red Baraat.
After a stint in NYC, living and working, Stuart returned to Philadelphia to record his debut CD “Solitary Walker” which was released in 2011. Featuring nine cool tunes with four original songs, the sophisticated jazz CD is steeped in the tradition of Philadelphia soul.
Stuart became a member of the Brooklyn-Bhangra band, Red Baraat in 2011. A fan favorite, the band has toured throughout North America, Europe and Australia. They have appeared at prestigious American music festivals such as Austin City Limits and SXSW Music Festival, among others. They were also invited to perform for NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert.
Stuart released the EP “Love/Loss” in 2014. The EP marks the first time Stuart has written and recorded from a genre-less perspective. His goal was to simply make music and not be tied down to a specific music style — jazz, R&B, hip-hop or rock. The three original tracks were arranged and composed by Stuart.
Spring 2015, Stuart releases his second solo EP “Same Walking Animals.” The three original songs arranged by Stuart are inspired by people and events he’s come across while touring.
Stuart is based in Philadelphia and continues to tour worldwide with Red Baraat.
Stolen Rhodes is an upbeat electric folk rock four piece from Monmouth County, New Jersey. Having recently toured the US and opened for artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jackyl, and Blackberry Smoke, Stolen Rhoads is quickly making a big name for themselves as an up and coming American rock band. Comprised of members Matt Pilion, Dan Haase, Kevin Cunningham, and Eric Skye, Stolen Rhodes has a total of three studio releases to their credit thus far; From the Dark Side of 88′ (2009), Falling Off the Edge (2011), and Slow Horse (2014). With soaring guitar solos, epic choruses, and great riffs reminiscent of some of the great American rockers of the mid 70’s, Stolen Rhoads is truly a band meant to be seen and enjoyed live.
