Tellus 360 and Music For Everyone are preparing to launch Showcase 2016, season three of the popular singer-songwriter series curated by local songwriter Stephen Patterson.

The 2015 season concluded in October with the sold-out Grand Finale show in which 4 artists from the previous 9 shows each had 15 minutes to convince the audience to give them their vote for Singer-Songwriter of the Year. Mindy Nolt walked away with 2015’s top honors and the $800 Grand Prize.

MFE will introduce the four competing artists with 15 minutes each to impress the crowd. Ballots will be handed out to folks as they come in and they vote at the end of the competition. There will be an auction with a basket of artists’ CDs and MFE swag.

Throughout the year we saw the 9 new headliners compete for a spot in this Grand Finale lets see who takes home the title.

The final four are Julia Jordan Kamanda, Steve Ward, Peter Kinsley, and Melissa Leanza

Julia Jordan Kamanda

As a songwriter, Julia’s music is acoustic based; but the arrangements go much deeper, pulling inspiration from her jazz and folk roots and natural R&B soul. On her debut album Urban Legacy, released in 2007, she presents songs about light, love and trusting life’s changes- lessons she learned from her musical genius father, Stanley Jordan, and her poetess mother, Sandy Kilpatrick Jordan. At 30 years old, she already has 21 years of professional performance experience and her voice has carried her around the world to grace the stages of legendary music venues, including the Buzios Jazz y Blues Festival in Brazil; the Cairo Opera House in Egypt; the Long Beach Jazz Festival in California; and Alice Tully Hall in New York City, among many others. In her first music-for-film projects, Julia teamed up with Biko Studios to provide music supervision for two short films, SALAY and Kombra, both of which have gone on to win numerous awards and are currently making their way through the international film festival circuit.

Says Julia: “I want my energy, my message, and my music to enhance life like a breath of fresh air; like a cool drink of lemonade; like rays of love, light, and optimism. I would like to leave an influence on the next generation of music lovers and visionaries that will be lasting and deep.”

Steve Ward

Pennsylvania indie rock quartet Fauna Flora was formed in 2013 by singer/songwriter Steve WardWard first became known in the late ’90s as part of the power pop trio Cherry Twister, and later as a solo artist, releasing two albums, Opening Night and See and Be Seen, in the 2000s. After taking some time off from recording, Ward, along with bassist and longtime collaborator Joe Pisapia, keyboardist Matt Thomas, and drummer Paul Murr, formed a new recording project based on Ward‘s thoughtful and intricately melodic pop songwriting. Recorded and produced by the band at Ward‘s barn studio in Marietta, Pennsylvania, Fauna Flora‘s lushly arranged, self-titled debut was released in April 2014, followed by their first live shows later that summer.

Peter Kinsley

I have spent all of my musical career in this area playing in bands of one form or another: blues based, rock based and finishing with the Speed Boys, in which I started really writing songs. For the past several years, however, my focus has been on writing songs on and for the acoustic guitar – just my voice and the guitar’s voice.  Generally speaking,  these songs are of a more personal nature than what I wrote in bands, whether actually about me or people I know, or about situations which confront all of us at certain moments in our lives. Each person’s response to the events of their life is unique to them, but I hope that some of what I have been writing strikes a chord with others.

Melissa Leanza

From early on I realized that the creative expression of my self through music soothed my soul. It has only been recently that I found this expression to be enjoyed by others. These songs are about the life of the heart. I am honored to be able to share them through the Singer- Songwriter Showcase.
