Dave Wilson Quartet


“Jazz saxophonist, recording artist, band leader, composer, and educator Dave Wilson will be bringing a top notch band into Tellus 360. Joining Dave will be the great Central Pa Pianist Kirk Reese, Tony Marino (From the Dave Liebman Group) on Bass, and the renowned Philadelphia drummer Harry “Butch” Reed. They will be playing selections from some of Dave’s four critically acclaimed recordings as well as popular standard tunes of the day.”

The Dave Wilson Quartet is a Contemporary Jazz group led by the noted Tenor/Soprano Saxophonist, Educator and composer to further and bring to fruition the music and vision of Dave Wilson, the artist. Defying categorization, the music is “what sounds good and can communicate with the audience on a deep level…it’s jazz”. Dave Wilson offers high caliber, compelling, contemporary Jazz music with top notch, nationally and internationally known personnel known for their exciting improvisations, creative individualistic compositions, and unique arrangements of standards. A Dave Wilson concert is characterized by a high energy, contemporary musical happening, always followed by an incredibly impressed response from the audience at hand. The Dave Wilson Quartet has four great CDs out under their own name. “Spiral” (released in 2010 on Summit Records), was recorded with All-Stars Phil Markowitz on Piano, Tony Marino on Bass, and Adam Nussbaum on Drums.  Spiral received air play nationwide (Chartbound-top 55 for six weeks in Jazz Weekly countdown, and garnered many positive reviews, (including 3 and ½ stars from Downbeat Magazine, as well as a favorably from Jazz Times). The new Dave Wilson Quartet released their latest CD “There Was Never” (featuring Bobby Avey on Piano; Tony Marino on Bass; Alex Ritz on Drums-all members of the Dave Liebman Group),  on ZOHO Music in November of 2016. The week of Jan 14th it reached #18 in the nation-wide Jazz Weekly Jazz Radio Countdown and stayed in the top 50 for 6 weeks! It was in the top 12 of Philadelphia’s WRTI Jazz Radio’s New Releases for almost two months, reaching a high of #5. It also had a great review  in the February issue of Downbeat Magazine.

For over twenty years, Dave has kept an active performance schedule logging an average of 150 dates a year with big bands and small ensembles at concerts, festivals, club dates and private engagements. His All Star concert appearances feature the likes of such nationally and internationally as well as regionally jazz notables as, on piano-Mark Soskin, Jim Ridl, Bobby Avey, Phil Markowitz, Steve Rudolph, Kirk Reese; Bass-Tony Marino, Steve Varner; Drums- Adam Nussbaum, Marko Marcinko, Bill Goodwin, Alex Ritz, Butch Reed. Wilson resides with his wife Lisa in Lancaster, PA. where, when off stage, he teaches woodwinds and also owns and operates Dave Wilson Musical Instruments, a business focusing on the buying and selling of vintage, modern and student brass and woodwind Instruments.
