XPN Welcomes Rhett Miller
I’ve made 16 studio albums. With Old 97’s, etc…
I love my job.
I PLAY for a living, for goodness sake.
Blending folk, rock, and world music, Douglas Thomas, a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter based in East Michigan, draws on his rural roots to craft sounds that rock in every sense of the word: get up and shake/lie down and sleep. Thomas’ reflective, emotive, and visionary sounds forge a new path for American songwriting, and the results are stunning.
Thomas released his debut EP Trimmings in 2009 and was later a finalist at WXPN’s Philly Rising Showcase. He then followed up with Live at XPN2 in 2012. His next album Gone to Seed will come out this fall. He has been a featured performer at the World Cafe and a member of the 21st Century Dreamtime Lions.
Born Douglas Thomas Smith in Allentown, NJ, he received a bachelor’s degree in Music and Environmental Science at Franklin & Marshall College in 2009. He is now pursuing a master’s in Urban Planning at the University of Michigan where soundscapes inform his cityscapes, and vice versa.
