LIGHTS ON: A Night for a Brighter Africa

LightsOnImage (1)

One fifth of the world population spends billions of dollars on kerosene annually, only to fill cramped homes with dim light and dirty fumes – resulting in respiratory issues, lower household savings, and poor lighting by which to study and work. This only paints a small picture of the everyday hardships we see firsthand in developing Africa.

Horizon Initiative, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based out of Lancaster, PA, in partnership with Energy Ambassador, AEDG, is working to meet this simple, basic need for families living without access to electricity in rural Kenya. While Horizon’s primary focus is to rescue and empower orphaned children to self-sustainability, we’ve developed a community outreach initiative that is truly changing the lives of our children and neighboring families in the areas where we work – all through solar innovation.

Join us in lighting up the night to bring clean, reliable, and affordable energy solutions to more families in need. It will be a fun evening with live music, African food, cash bar, a special art exhibition from Millersville University’s art students, and more.

Music will be provided by award-winning world musician Vinx. He’s recorded and toured with musical legends including Sting, Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, and Cher.  And for one night only on February 19, Vinx will captivate Lancaster with a very special benefit performance at Tellus360.

All proceeds raised will go toward Horizon Initiative’s solar lantern initiative and supporting efforts to empower the children and communities we serve to a brighter future. Because of Horizon’s 100% Promise, all outside donations go directly toward our work on the ground.
