 Left/Right Cafe

Left/Right Cafe, which brings left-leaning and right-leaning people together to eat dinner and talk one-on-one, is being held on Monday, April 24 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Tellus360.

Left/Right Cafe was piloted in State College in February and now, in conjunction with Lancaster Action Now Coalition (LANC), is being piloted in Lancaster City. We’re expecting a small group of diners who will be matched up in pairs to eat, talk and experience the connection that comes from getting off social media. We feel there’s a lot to learn from sitting across the table from someone you may disagree with, but with whom you may also have a lot in common.

The evening is not about convincing the other person that your political views are the correct ones; it’s about the lost art of a civil conversation with someone from “the other side.” The organizers will provide conversation starters that run the gamut from “When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?” and “What’s the best meal you’ve had in Lancaster County?” to “What did you like and dislike about who you voted for in the Presidential election?” We’re particularly excited that mayoral candidates Kevin Ressler (Democratic) and Cindy Stewart (Republican) accepted our invitation to dine together as part of this program.

Tellus360 is welcoming us to their space because they believe in community conversations as much as we do. They will be comping dessert for all the diners at the end of the evening. They understand a conversation like this can involve stepping outside one’s comfort zone and they want to help ensure the night ends sweetly.

Media Inquiries can be sent to Eric Sauder (eric.sauder@gmail.com) of Left/Right Cafe or Jamie Beth Schindler (LANCoalition@gmail.com) of Lancaster Action Now Coalition.
