Kyle Morgan

Kyle Morgan is a nomad artist of word and melody, a philosophizing songster whose dynamic style resists simple categorization. His writing draws heavily on the tradition of American song and its roots in old-time balladry and country-blues. However, there’s too much Beatles and Kinks mixed in to accurately label it ‘Americana’. As evidenced by his debut album Starcrossed Losers (2013), Morgan has the uncanny ability to shift musical moods on a dime from rock’n’roll fueled angst to intimate nylon stringed love song. Currently residing in Portland, Maine and originally from the rolling Appalachian foothills of central Pennsylvania, Morgan sings his way across America, sometimes with a band, sometimes alone.

Shrimpboat is the brainchild of Bobby Gentilo and Jason Hoffheins come to fruition; a group of artists with enough in common to work well with one another, but different enough apart to bring a wealth of perspectives to the table. As an engineer and producer at Right Coast Recording Studio in Columbia, PA, Bobby had the unique opportunity to sample from a wide range of local talent, and hand pick each member.

Striking their first notes in 2012, Shrimpboat was quick to start performing, playing monthly shows at the Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center Stage on Herr, and various bookings in the Lancaster area. But they set themselves apart from other bands when they released their studio session video of their original song “Busted Soul.” Both the song and the video captured the attention of renowned engineer Dave Natale, who is known for his work with artists such as The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, and countless others. Natale expressed an interest in recording and filming with the band, but this time, all analog, no computers, and in September of 2013, Shrimpboat began work on “Slickie Ricky.” Natale captured the essence of band in that session – a fresh yet familiar approach to soul, funk and rhythm & blues with powerful vocals, tight harmonies, and energizing grooves.
