8 musicians who make up four different bands, in an evening of music that culminates with a reunion of the popular Green Onions. Corty Byron has helped us to put together this show which features CSC Acoustic Trio, Heavy Push, and Corty Byron Band.
The band that Corty Byron started with his father when he was just 16, is reuniting for just this one show. This rootsy rock and jam band featured music that sounded like it came straight out of your 70’s era FM radio, and were a staple of the local music scene for a few years, even opening for a number of national acts.
Corty Byron Band
The Corty Byron Band is made up of three of the members of the Green Onions. At 28 years old, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Corty Byron has been active as a musician for over a decade. He released two solo projects (2011‘s Histrionic EP & 2010‘s Endless North), opened for/performed with artists like Gregg Allman, The Doobie Brothers, Dave Mason, Bruce Hornsby, The Gin Blossoms, Blackberry Smoke, Hot Tuna, Jimmy Vivino…. and has become a fixture of his hometown Central Pennsylvania music scene, as well as being a seasoned road hound, gigging his way from Manhattan to Memphis, Austin to Vegas and all points in between. In late 2011 Corty relocated to Venice, CA, and spent the following year performing up and down the coast and across the state, including venues such as The Viper Room, House Of Blues and Saint Rocke. His style has shifted from swampy vintage rock and soulful acoustic based Americana to song driven psychedelic indie pop/rock. Work has already begun on an upcoming full length album, that will feature all new original material written in the past year while on the road and living in California.
The Heavy Push
The Heavy Push is a power trio featuring up-and-coming young guitarist Joey Dougherty and seasoned local music scene veterans Mike Dinse (The Green Onions, Corty Byron Band) on bass and Ffej Herb (herbie) on drums. The band performs a variety of 60s and 70s classic rock as well as jam-band and progressive rock-influenced original compositions. Conceptual Continuity is the brainchild of drummer Ffej Herb, who is a huge Zappa freak in his own right, although all three members of the band are huge fans of Zappa’s music. As a matter of fact, the band has never played a show that didn’t feature at least one Zappa tune in its setlist! Nineteen-year-old Dougherty is a gifted, well-rounded musician (not only a guitarist) who is poised to make a big dent in the local music scene and beyond! He will be attending Berklee School of Music in the fall of 2014.
CSC Acoustic Trio
As its name suggests, this acoustic trio is made up of Corty, Scott, and Chris of the Green Onions, and they’ll be kicking this show off.
Come on out for a great night of music with Corty & Company.
