Bencoolen – Maximalist Rock, Alternative Rock

Bencoolen has played a huge stages with Cold War Kids, the Mowglis, Marcus King Band, and with Big Something. Bencoolen has closed a street festival stage in Virginia. Bencoolen was in USA Today.  Bencoolen has booked the legendary 9:30 Club in their hometown and toured the East Coast. That is a boring list of facts. That does not describe the experience. Maybe a little house party does not have the prestige or acoustics of a huge hall, but there are no shortcuts to meeting you. Whether the band plays for 4000 people again or plays for the capacity of your living room… this narrative is why Bencoolen’s music has been called maximalist rock.

Known for their live act, Bencoolen defines their sound as maximalist rock with soaring vocal lines, massive guitar tones, and swift saxophone solos.

Bencoolen started in January 2014 as a fun project, but began it’s touring push in February 2016, and solidified their lineup in May 2016.

Between winter 2016 and spring 2017, Bencoolen has booked 60 performances across the East Coast and booked festival stops across VA, NC, and Delaware, headlined by Firefly Music Festival and Big What bids.

The new lineup is touring in support of their first single together called “Spotlight.” That recording was built on a live room recording at Inner Ear studio in Virginia, near their Washington DC home, with legendary engineer Don Zientara. Don has recorded for a wide range of artists from the Foo Fighters to Fugazi.
