Balkun Brothers w/ Somebody's Darling
Bluesy rock and rocky blues
Time to get your funky blues on with Balkun Brothers.
Balkun Brothers’ sound fuses strong blues riffs and heavy classic funk rhythms that resemble some of their biggest influences such as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Gary Clark Jr., Buddy Guy, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Balkun Brothers was voted ‘Best Blues Band in Connecticut’ for back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014 at the Connecticut Music Awards and the band won the 2014 Connecticut Blues Society Band Challenge to earn a spot at the this year’s International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.
The band represented the Massachusetts Blues Society at last year’s International Blues Challenge and 26 year-old front man and guitarist, Steve Balkun, won the 2012 CT Blues Society Solo Competition and was a grand finalist in Memphis, TN at the IBC. Steve was also selected as a top ten finalist in Guitar Center’s 2013 Blues Master Competition and was chosen to play with Joe Bonamassa in Los Angeles, CA.
Balkun Brothers recently released their 3rd official live album which followed their debut studio EP that was released in September 2013. The band is currently finalizing their CD release tour for this upcoming Summer.
In 2015, Dallas rock band Somebody’s Darling, taking a page from Tom Petty, packed up camp, pushed all their chips in, and headed for Nashville to run down the dream of doing this forever. Think My Morning Jacket fronted by a woman, or Alabama Shakes if they’d been born in Texas.
“Equal bits Gary Clark Jr. and ZZ Ward, their track “Generator” whose delightful Tame Impala’s “Elephant”-esque intro gives the track a propulsive spurt right out of the gates. It’s off their upcoming LP, Adult Roommates, and we’re ready to hear more.” – Baebel Music
“Somebody’s Darling have all the elements you would expect from a Southern rock band: Lead singer Amber Farris’ commanding vocals, dominant guitars, powerful drums, and lyrics that make you pay attention.” -CULTURE COLLiDE
