Stop in and see Pastor Tim whenever during that time, get your ashes, and go on your way.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent originally meant “spring”. It is a time to reflect and a time for renewal. In ancient times, people would cover themselves in ashes as a sign of regret for what they had done wrong and with the hope of getting a new start or second chance. The ashes come from burning the palms used last year for Palm Sunday. In receiving the sign of the cross drawn on our foreheads with the ashes, we are asked to reflect upon the quality of our spirituality and life. It is the hope that we may be renewed by this ritual, so that we can be restored to a better way of spiritual life and moral growth.
