Acappellus360: Lancaster’s First All-Voices Singing Competition

PubSceneSingingAlmaMaterUnivBuffalo

In the ancient tradition of having a pint and singing your lungs off at the bar, Tellus360 presents this truly original musical event.

Here’s how it works: You organize a team of  3 or more of the finest singers you can assemble and prepare two songs for competition.

Here’s the catch: your songs must be performed without any instrumental backing; just you, your voices and a crowd of people just waiting to start singing along!

Don’t be fooled by the communal fun of singing with your fellow patrons, this is a full-fledged battle of the voices with a team of crack celebrity judges waiting to send you back to your seat…or into the the next round of competition! The ultimate survivor will receive a champion’s prize pack of Tellus related goodies!

Some tips for competition:
1) Pick songs that you think the crowd will know and like. Crowd participation is a key to your ultimate success.
2) Be prepared for shenanigans: though we’ve asked you to perform two songs, there are three rounds and all sorts of room for mischief.
3) The competition is open to all level of singers and styles of music. Originality and creativity might win the day over technical proficiency if you tickle the fancy of the judges and the crowd.
4) Have fun! People like fun!

Matt Johnson will host the evening.

Here are some of the rules for the evening:

  • Each team must have a min. of 3 members, no max. limit for team members, or teams involved
  • Each team will have 2 songs prepared:1 to choose for the first round, and 1 for the last if they make it to the final.

First Round

Each group will sing one of the songs they have prepared, each judge will give a number for performance, audience will vote by text.

There will be a gong for bands that just don’t have what it take for quick elimination

Votes will be tallied and top half of teams will move to the second round

Second Round

Each group will have 3 spins at the wheel; the wheel will include popular songs and 3 envelopes –  envelopes will hold secret songs. Groups can spin up to 3 times, but can not go back to a song they landed on before. Each group will have 10 minutes or so to practice their song before performing.

Final Round

Each group will have one more song prepared, but there will be a twist. Perhaps we will spin the wheel again to see what style/genre the song must be sung in. We will also have a second part to the final round that will include crowd interaction; perhaps we will give them a song to sing, but they must change the words to something the crowd suggests, think whose line is it anyway. As well as some way to have the groups get the crowd singing, and have a criteria for best crowd interaction.
