Public discourse and debate over gun rights in the United States is reaching fever pitch. On one side of the debate are arguments that an individual has an absolute right to own firearms and that gun control laws infringe the right to self-defense and could result in the government taking away all guns. On the other side, there are assertions that gun rights are not unlimited and that gun control laws would reduce gun deaths and violence. In the midst of this heated social and political debate, we ask “what does the Second Amendment actually mean?” Presenters Dwight Yoder, Justin Bollinger, Jason Asbell, and Sheila O’Rourke of Gibbel Kraybill and Hess LLP will present a basic overview of the Second Amendment from a historical and legal perspective.
