Sweet Ember // Kristi Jean & Her Ne’er-do-Wells
February 7, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 1:00 am
Sweet Ember is a five piece band that started a few years ago. The band was originally The Lisa Thomas Band and then additional members were brought on board and Sweet Ember was built. The band began to become popular in the Lancaster area and was the city of Lancaster’s 2016 featured band for New Years Eve. Since then we have expanded to Harrisburg, York, and Reading areas. The members include Katrina Ambron that provides the powerful vocals, Jason Gray on Bass and lead vocals, Eric Dietrich on Lead and vocals, Lisa Thomas on Guitar and vocals and Joe Shattis on Drums. We have developed a following of different age spans as our music spans over many different generations provided classic rock, pop and blues.
Kristi Jean’s music is at the intersection of traditional country, jazz and rhythm-and-blues; a jumpin’ revival of the early days of rockabilly
There was a collision of musical styles in the early 1950’s: traditional country artists and their steel guitars ran headlong into a new style of jumpin’ jazz and rhythm-and-blues. The result was the harbinger of rockabilly and early rock n’ roll. The collision was a musical big-bang with a bright flash; but the flash was to be short-lived. Within a few years, the rockabilly and rock n’ roll artists shunned their country roots in favor of a more “hip” sound. Kristi and her Ne’er-Do-Wells re-introduces those twanging rockabilly guitars and slappin’ doghouse basses to their steel guitar and country yodelin’ roots. Get your dancing shoes ready.
Texas native Kristi Jean brings her acclaimed country-infused twang to bear on a collection of feisty songs that reflect a brief moment in time when two musical styles co-existed and gave rise to the revolution of rockabilly and rock n’roll. Like her heros, Kristi was raised on traditional country music played through an AM radio; but her independent spirit drove her to musical rebellion: experimenting with rock n’ roll, pop, and even musical theatre. With “Honky-tonkabilly Swingin‘,” Kristi has come full-circle to her country roots – with her firery spirit not far beneath the surface.
Kristi’s Ne-er-Do-Wells are veterans of the honky-tonk and rockabilly scene and their wide-ranging talent and musical sensibilities get hearts pumping and feet moving so we can all go “Honky-Tonkabilly Swingin’”
