Time Capsule
There’s something pretty awesome about demolishing a cement wall – swinging a 60-pound sledgehammer and watching the pieces fly. But last week we learned that you never know what you’ll find hidden in those walls. Or, in this case, on top of the ceiling tiles.
While tearing down the old drop ceiling panels, we happened upon a stack of vintage photographs that were stowed away overhead. They depict an outdoor summer party, complete with volleyball, guitars, a beautiful Great Dane and … a keg. If we had to guess, it seems like this is from the 1970’s time period. And using clues from the t-shirts two of the guys are wearing, it’s taking place somewhere in the Lancaster area.
We scanned the photos in (see the slideshow embedded below) and have them all available to look at on our Flickr page.
Do you know anyone in the photos??? Tell us below!

These photos were taken circa 1975 @ Rick “Spaceman” Herr (now deceased) and Vickie Herr’s house near New Danville on Millersville Pk. Not sure who or how the pics got into the wall like a time capsule but this brings back a lot of awesome memories! This was a get together sometime in the summer of that year following TACO/TACOLAROTEF/The Annual Celebration of Life and Rebirth of the Earth Festival – a private outing club that was held Memorial Day weekend and evolved into a large gathering to include many friend and family – I am familiar with most of the people in the pictures with the exception of a few.

Thanks for the info, Libby! We have no idea how they ended up here, but it’s so fitting that the event was a celebration of life and rebirth of the earth! Seems like it was meant to be :)

I stumbled across this site and I’m hoping someone is still reading it….
I came up with the TACOLAROTEF acronym back around 1973ish. Steve Chambers (aka “Big” as in Big Steve), Rick Herr (aka “Space” as in Spaceman) and me (Rocky) were working on a book that was never published, called “Big Space Rock”….our meetings were lots of fun, to say the least, and that’s when I came up with TACOLAROTEF, or Taco for short.
I really fell out of touch. I didn’t know Space had passed. He was an interesting guy….

I’m not sure when the acronym was developed but the idea occurred in the basement of my house on Union St. The Chambers Bros had a lot of the input. It wasn’t suppose to be a big booze/binge weekend. It was about the spring time of year when things start turning green and it seemed to be a rebirth of the earth. Originally, it was May Day weekend. It kinda got out of control and eventually turned into one hell of a 3-day Memorial Day party. Many rated it the best holiday of the year (including Xmas). To this day, I yell: “Taco” a couple times on Memorial Day Weekend.
