Brooke Laura a true rockstar

“You have the ability if you have the desire to make someone’s life so much better”

So I had the great fun of sitting in traffic for a couple of hours on the Baltimore Beltway.  Thankfully the company was good; Brooke Laura and I were driving from Lancaster to Annapolis.  On a two hour drive that took four we started a 15 minute interview that turned into an hour.

Over the next few months we will release the interview in blog posts.  Brooke is the founder of Saprinu, A wonderful organization using education to change the world, one child at a time, one village at a time, one community at a time.

Brooke Laura is a good person.

I leave tomorrow with my two sons for Archale in Nepal and I can honestly say I have never been more excited to go anywhere!

What is Saprinu?

Saprinu has a school in Archale, Nepal.  Our school helps the people of Archale help themselves.  We set up our school as a learning hub in the community, educating the youth because I believe they are going to go on and solve the problems that Nepal is facing today.  These problems are really big problems. A better Nepal for the future needs to start today not 100 years from today, I’m invested, we all are, one community in two years, we want to revolutionize education in Nepal one Village at a time, the whole community is involved in the school.  It is important to us, it is important to the kids who go to our school, it is important to the families of the kids who go to our school.

So why do you do what you do?

As one person, even more as a team we can change the world for the better but it is even smaller than that you have the ability if you have the desire to make someone’s life so much better.  Realizing where we come from we are given so many opportunities and I believe it is our responsibility to pass it along.  The people of Archale desire it, they want a quality education, they want to be respected, and they want opportunities.  Again for me it starts with education, knowledge, skills, making people active in their community. For me to see people’s lives change, their life increase that’s why I do it and that’s why I will do it for the rest of my life because I really do have the power to change the world.

What keeps you awake at night?

(Brooke starts with a big ammmmmm, thinking through the question)  Always thinking of ways to do things better, we never get to a point where we can stop, I think till my last breath, I think for me I will be working towards my greater purpose, that leaves many more things to work towards and so yeah I think about it often, what’s the next thing I can do.

What excites you?

Life excites me all aspects of life excite me, travel, learning about different cultures, just meeting people, I think just that human connection.  Just being able to be in Nepal, being able to be in the community that we work, you know not be an outsider coming in but really be invested in a community, that really excites me.

Just the day to day, watching people grow.  It really excites me when you meet people or you cross paths with others and they become inspired to change their lives.  When people see the work that is being done and when they make the choice to change their life. They decide to help others, to get involved, maybe not in Saprinu but whatever organization.  This is exciting, this is really really exciting when people do that and I see it happen a lot.
