A Man in a Coffee Shop
A Man in a Coffee Shop
By joe devoy
Written sometime
As he walks through the Valley of Loneliness
Head sneaking up in an act of supposed confidence
Suit perfectly pressed in remembrance of a time gone by
Dignified but lost, present but wanting
Gone again a chance to meet someone
Back to the solitude of his life
A life of conformance as time passed by
And that’s what he was meant to do
That’s what he still does
Every morning as he polishes his shoes and ties his tie.
As he walks through the Valley of Enlightenment
Head held high with nothing to fear
Suit perfectly pressed in remembrance of a time to aspire to
Dignified and proud, present and comfortable
Here again a chance to beautifully remember
Back to the completeness of his life
A life of routine that few could achieve
And that’s what he was meant to do
That’s what he still does
Every morning as he polishes his shoes and ties his tie.

This, I love. Especially with the picture. I feel like I know him. I feel like I want to have coffee with him. You brought us inside his life, even though we were watching and observing him “from the outdside.” Thank you.
